ENGINEERED FOR SPEED
Fabrication
Creating our final design was what we thought would be the hardest part of this project. Little did we know the ups and downs that were to come with the fabrication of the chassis. Since the chassis is going to be raced at speeds upwards of 90mph it was an easy decision to outsource the welding to a third party. After going back and forth over design, dimensions, and documentation with a fabricator who was referred to us they ended up dropping out due to overload of work. However, this was somewhat of a blessing in a curse. The next fabricators we found have been making chassis for Enduro karts, a form of racing quite similar to the category our kart would race in. They had expert knowledge that allowed us to further refine the design. The chassis is currently being fabricated and has been delayed due to difficulties acquiring the hollow Chromoly Steel tubing that is required.
More Updates Coming Soon!

Fixture for bending tubes and assembly has been custom made and tubes will be bent next. Check-in for more updates as they arrive.
Progress!

The front bar and frame rails have been bent to our dimensions and tack welded along with the spindle mounts. It's coming along nicely and starting to look how we thought it would.

In the rear of the kart, the frame rails are all set on the fixture and the inner rear bar has been coped to make it fit with the horizontal bar that will run across the middle of the kart. Next steps are to put in the rear diagonal bar and support along with the horizontal bar
Taking Shape!

Cool view of the kart running from front to back. Frame rails are set, front bar is done, and spindle mounts have been welded together.

Really starting to take shape. The horizontal bar across where the driver will sit behind is in place. That along with the inner rear bar, and diagonal bar w/support make the rear of the chassis look just about complete. The bearing carriers are currently tack welded and is one of the last things that needs to be done on back half. Will keep you updated as we get more photos!
Almost There!

The whole frame has now been fully welded, not just tack welded and the anti-roll bar mounts have also been added in. Pretty neat looking at the whole frame on teh fixture and seeing the fabrication process from true professionals.

Up close looks at the welds in the back of the rear diagonal bar and it's support. Also to the right you can see how the anti-roll bar mount fits into the frame and can see how the anti-roll bar will fit across to stiffen the front end. Next steps is adding in steering column pickup, pedal mounts, body mounts, seat mounts, and fully weld bearing carriers.
